The Season ended on a high following the past weekend for KPFC. The Reserves won the Reserves Senior Cup Final, beating Brantham Athletic 2-1 at Leiston FC. Goals from Lewis Flower and Miguel Lopez cancelled out a Brantham penalty, to bring the cup back to Walmer Road.
A mixed side, mainly made up of U18 players then won the Beccles Hospital Cup on Sunday. Under the guidance of Ben Atkins, they beat Beccles Town on penalties in the semi-final after Kyle Baker had equalised for KPFC. Then comprehensively beat Bungay Town 6-0 in the final, goals from Kyle Baker (2), Ryan Crisp, Ollie Winram, Matt Hunton and Craig Bedingfield sealed the victory. Both pieces of silverware now sit nicely in the trophy cabinet at the clubhouse.
Photographs from all the events are now available on the KPFC Facebook Page.
A review of the past 2011-12 season of adult football at Kirkley & Pakefield F.C.
In what we knew would always be a difficult and transitional season for a young 1st team squad due to financial restraints, became much harder in the early part of the season, a poor pre-season of friendlies and an unbelievable injury list plus the sudden resignation of manager John Reynolds due to work and personnel reasons. With just 1 win in the first 9 games and 6 losses that saw us knocked out of both the FA Cup and Vase at the first hurdle. A temporary management pairing of Marty Hubble and Robbie Horton took over and kept the side together until the club installed the experienced Paul Tong as 1st team manager with Marty as his assistant and Robbie as coach. Asked to guide the club to safety, things started rough for Paul despite achieving a few notable results. A few known and experienced players were brought in to steady the ship, and with some degree of improvement and points started to come, although still at the wrong end of the table. A relegation battle was developing, but the manager and players got it together and performances improved and points built up, with the final seven games seeing us unbeaten with 6 wins and a draw scoring 16 goals with only 3 conceded to take us to a almost mid-table 13th place finish in the league. Leading goal scorer with 17 goals was Ryan Crisp despite missing games whilst on trials with Ipswich Town. Dominic Smith was the team’s most consistent and outstanding player of the season winning both the supporters and players player awards, whilst Kyle Baker picked up the managers award. The outstanding find of the season has been youth team goalkeeper Jordan Smith who cemented the 1st team keeper jersey for himself with a string of notable performances to pick up the clubs young player of the season award.
Congratulations must go to manager Paul Tong, Marty Hubble the backroom team, and players for their tremendous efforts throughout and at the end of the season. Paul Tong has been asked to continue his efforts for the club for next season and attempt to bring youth through as well as a possible couple of more experienced players to stabilize the team further and hopefully have more success especially in the national cup competitions that bring much needed revenue to the club.
All club sponsors are thanked for their new and continued support, who without the club would not survive, but it is disappointing that many sponsors have been able to continue the supporting of this community club due to various financial restraints. The club is urgently looking for a major 1st team or club sponsor as well as reserve team sponsor. Any prospective sponsors are encouraged to contact club officials. A very big thanks go out to all the diehard supporters, unfortunately gate attendances to have dropped, whilst officials costs have increase, some to ridiculous amounts, these are appointed by the FA. We need you and hope to win and entertain you all next season, please all bring a friend along.
The reserves have had a good season reaching for the first time the final of the Suffolk Senior Reserves Cup, they have also achieved a top six finish in the Anglian Combination Premier Division and have introduced many young players this season. The Under 18s Youth team alters every year with new young players coming in and a fourth place league finish and semi-final league cup appearance looks good for the future. Both ‘A’ & ‘B’ teams avoided relegation under difficult conditions with so many injuries throughout the club. Both Vets teams had limited success this season and new younger over 35s are required and welcomed.
Finally our community club is the only one in the area where players can continue their junior football enjoyment to youth level, then adult level whether it be at local Lowestoft & District, the senior Anglian Combination Premier or Ridgeon Premier, SORRY Thurlow Nunn Premier as the league will be known from next season with the Vauxhall Car Dealers as the league’s new sponsors for the next three years, then continue your playing for the Veterans. Please all continue your support of the ‘Royals’ whether as a supporter, sponsor, player or why not help at the club and come on the committee.

KIRKLEY & Pakefield chairman Bob Jenkerson says the Football Association’s proposals could “crush our aspirations” along with other coastal clubs in the Eastern Region.
Kirkley stand to be the hardest hit of all the Ridgeons League Premier Division clubs under the FA proposals, with an increase of 1,700 miles in the newly-formed Eastern Division.
The east Suffolk club, who run a total of 40 teams covering all levels through youth football in addition to adult sides, are therefore among the 16 clubs against the move and are instead supporting the alternative suggestion put forward by the Ridgeons League.
Jenkerson, who stressed these are his own views as he has not had chance to discuss the proposals with his committee because of being away on business, said: “We are offering and developing football within the community as much as any club and far more than some, yet these Step 5 proposals appear to crush our aspirations and, indeed, all those of the Eastern Region’s coastal clubs.
“Why would anyone want to pull apart one of the most successful Step 5 leagues in the country? The new proposals bolster failing leagues, keep cosy little travelling arrangements, whilst almost doubling travelling arrangements of other clubs.
“These plans smack, at best, of a lack of imagination.
“In our own case it is proposed that our mileage be increased from just over 1,900 miles to over 3,600 miles.
“Nine of our teams would require round trips of over 200 miles and four teams would make round trips of more than 150 miles.
“The cross country roads are not the best and some of these trips will be three hours on a good day.
“The proposals wish to separate clubs that are within 40 miles which are local derbies and revenue streams replacing them with clubs based over 120 miles away who are unlikely to bring much in the way of travelling support.
“The financial burden for those travelling alone will hit them hard considering the travelling distances.
“However, the possible travel for many players will require significant time off work on a regular basis. Many players can’t afford to do this or would not get the time off work to do this. In addition, the clubs will not be able to reimburse them. It appears we are being offered Step 5 football at Step 4 costs. This will prevent many clubs from competing at this level.”
