FOOTBALLING favourites from yester-year descended on south Lowestoft for the latest Legends clash.
Former Norwich City and Ipswich Town stars united once more at Walmer Road, as Dale Gordon’s Legends beat Kirkley and Pakefield’s Youth Legends 8-2 on bank holiday Monday.
The special match attracted a good turnout as scores of people headed to the home of K&P for the Legends match, to catch a glimpse of the stars.
The game was organised by former Canaries winger Gordon as part of his latest tour of Norfolk and Suffolk – and teaming up with K&P once more, after last year’s inaugural match ended in a 8-1 rout for the Norwich and Ipswich Legends, the latest match was hailed another success.
Dale Gordon’s Legends squad featured Gordon himself, Adrian Coote, Rob Newman, Paul McVeigh, Darren Eadie, Kevin Horlock, Kevin Ingles, Scott Howie, Simon Milton, Jason Dozzell, Fabian Wilnis, Russell Osman, Tony Spearing and Gordon’s son Remy.
The K&P Youth Legends side featured many of the managers, coaches and parents involved with the club’s flourishing youth section – including Ben and Sam Atkins, Shaun Norman, Craig Guy, Paul and Darren Underdown, Danny Tacon, Neil Harris, Kevin Sherwood and Paul Haywood – who combined with K&P first teamers Kyle Baker and Scott Manning for the match.
K&P spokesman Barrie Atkins said: “The star of the show without doubt was Paul McVeigh – he took control of the game from the very first minute and stroked the ball around the pitch with ease as he showed his pure class.
“Kirkley & Pakefield Legends were giving it everything they had and the effort was outstanding, but at times Dale Gordon’s Legends simply sprayed the ball from one side of the pitch to the other and it was like watching players chasing shadows.
“But take nothing away from Kirkley, they harassed, chased, tackled and worked as a team and eventually got their reward with a penalty for a foul.”
After some “mind games” by the Legends keeper, Daz Underdown hit the penalty home to reduce the arrears and a late free kick, some 20 yards out, saw Kyle Baker – after asking the referee for a quick free kick – curl the ball home to the right of the young keeper “who had an excellent game,” according to Atkins, as K&P made it 7-2.
A late eighth goal sealed the Legends victory, and at the end of the match Atkins said: “It was an entertaining game, enjoyed by all, on a day when stars of yester-year mixed happily with youngsters and fans alike, which is so good to see these days.”
An auction was also held at the end of the game for the Legends’ shirts.
Kirkley and Pakefield FC, in association with Legends Events and The Winelodge in Oulton Broad, will be hosting “a major sporting event” in August.
A Charity Soapstar team - featuring stars from Hollyoaks, Waterloo Road, Emmerdale, Doctors, Eastenders and Coronation Street - will line up to take on Dale Gordon’s Legends side at Walmer Road on August 12.
A pre match party will be held at Winelodge in Oulton Broad on Saturday, August 11.

The team will be looking for a League and Cup double, when they meet
Waveney Pumas U11, in the NSYL U11 Cup Final.
The Management team of Lee and Steve, would like to say VERY WELL DONE to all of the players and also to thank all of the parents and everyone who has assisted them this season.
The club would also like to offer their congratulations to Lee & Steve and the boys (and not forgetting the parents) for this outstanding achievement and wish them well in their Cup Final.
WELL DONE TO YOU ALL, YOU DID IT ….CHAMPIONS OF LEAGUE 2….
A brilliant game in the cold and the mud, but a hard fought game and eventually turned out with the right result and a great win, enjoy this boys as you deserve it for the great year you have had.
Right from the start the pressure was put onto the opposition, they were out to stop our party and beat us, but some great chasing and pressure made them make a back pass, and from the resulting free kick DJ scores the 1st of his 2 goals. Well done.
Rhys and Lewis at the back made some great stops and a couple of vital interceptions to stop them scoring, well done.
Conner as usual was everywhere and went where he was needed, well done.
Kyle in the middle had a great game making some brilliant tackles and passing the ball through, well done Kyle, Ryan playing in both defence and midfield made himself a nuisance to the opposition and broke up their play, well done.
If we keep playing like this and carry on progressing as we are then we will be hard to beat.
Enjoy what you have done and lets keep learning together.

Congratulations from Everyone at the Club
This was won by the lads due to their consistent Fair Play scoring from the other managers in last years under 10's Division 4. The team were informed by Paul Newby, Secretary of the Norfolk & Suffolk Youth League, that the team received some of the highest scores ever recorded and topped the whole of Suffolk's 800+ youth teams.
This is a remarkable achievement by the team and is only the 2nd time, that this club has been awarded this outstanding award. Huge praise must also be awarded to Matt and everyone involved with the team, as the players only follow the lead of the Manager, his team and the parents.
From everyone involved at the club
WELL DONE!

Daniel Hudson of the U11 Tornado's leaves the club as his parents have moved away to Yorkshire, he has now played his final match for Kirkley & Pakefield FC.
Daniel was one of the original members of the Dynamo's Under 9's which John Pitts formed just before the start of the 09/10 season where he started out as a winger having come to us from what was the old "B" team. The team finished their first season in 3rd place narrowly missing out on promotion by a single point. He really came into his own last season where he played as striker and finished top scorer with 20 goals with his team winning the Championship, the League Fair Play award and also the Suffolk County Fair Play award.
This season he has notched 6 goals in 5 matches.
For his final match the boys all did a route line onto the pitch and I would like to make special mention to the Gorleston Hawks manager who also got his team to line up opposite so we could all applaud him onto the pitch. Daniel finished the match having scored 4 goals and was awarded the match ball to keep as a memento. We also bought him a football which all the boys signed.
Daniel has never failed to give 100% for the club, was always at the forefront encouraging his team mates through rain and shine and was always very vocal in every training session he attended. It was a very emotional day for him and he brought sweets for all his team mates for the final match as well as a mug and heartfelt thank you letter for myself both from himself and from his grandmother.
He will be sorely missed.
